Brand & Marketing
Branding guidelines, marketing strategy and the monetization feature roadmap for the Editorial Redesign — spiritual but modern, calm but exciting, built for women 18–50 with cosmopolitan taste and for the creators who set that taste. This page is the working business-plan layer on top of the comps.
1 · Positioning
Lumenal is the daily practice of light — a five-minute morning ritual that turns eight traditions of spiritual insight into constructive daily habits, dressed like a fashion magazine instead of a fortune teller.
| Versus | They are | Lumenal is |
|---|---|---|
| Co–Star / The Pattern | Ironic, text-only, occasionally bleak push notifications | Warm, actionable, beautiful — insight that ends in a to-do, not a mood |
| Sanctuary / psychic apps | Pay-per-minute readings, transactional | A membership practice with human warmth and no meter running |
| Calm / Headspace | Secular meditation, no personal narrative | Personalized to your chart and goals — the story is about you |
| Habit trackers (Habitica etc.) | Utilitarian checkboxes and RPG clutter | Habits wrapped in meaning, aesthetics and daily fresh content |
The ownable gap: nobody in the category combines real computation (natal engine), daily personalized content, habit mechanics and a luxury editorial look. Competitors own "witty" and "clinical calm" — Lumenal owns beautiful discipline.
2 · Brand personality & voice
Personality in four words: luminous · composed · knowing · encouraging. The voice is a well-traveled friend who reads your chart and then helps you plan your week — never a doomsayer, never a guru, never a cheerleader on espresso.
Sounds like
- "The sun favors the unhurried. Say less, mean more."
- "One intention. Specificity wins."
- "Day 12. Your practice is growing."
- Italian accents as craft, not costume: edizione, terme, atelier.
Never sounds like
- Doom framing: "Mercury retrograde will wreck your week."
- Guru-speak: "unlock your divine feminine abundance frequency."
- Hype: exclamation stacks, emoji strings, FOMO countdowns.
- Clinical detachment — warmth is non-negotiable.
3 · Visual guidelines
Core palette — "Stationery & Light"
Rule of thumb: ivory ground, ink type, one gold moment per screen, glow gradients (apricot→rosa) reserved for the daily hero and share cards. Night surfaces swap ivory→velluto and gold→champagne; nothing else changes.
Typography
- Display serif: Playfair Display (or Fraunces for the warmer Golden Hour register) — headlines, cover stories, pull quotes. Italic = the emotional word.
- Wordmark: Italiana, letterspaced ~0.3em, always uppercase.
- Workhorse sans: Inter or Jost Light — body, UI, forms. Uppercase micro-labels at 9–12px with 0.2em+ tracking are the system's signature detail.
- Never more than two families per surface; excitement comes from scale contrast (72px serif next to 10px caps), not from added fonts.
Art direction
- Iconography: Feather-style outline icons only, 1.5–1.75px strokes. No filled emoji-style glyphs.
- Imagery: golden-hour photography, stone and linen textures, hands and rituals — never stock "mystic woman with galaxy hair." Generated card art follows the Ciro Marchetti-inspired deck work on Card Concepts.
- Shapes: the arch is the brand shape (cards, frames, photo masks); hairline rules and numbered rubrics (No. 1 · i, ii, iii) structure every page.
- Motion: slow fades and gentle parallax only. If an animation would look at home in a casino, it's out.
How the eight looks map to surfaces
| Register | Direction | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Daily product skin | The Golden Hour | App dashboard, goals, share cards, onboarding |
| Brand voice / marketing | La Rivista | Website front page, email digest, campaign copy system |
| Dark / evening mode | Il Velluto (with Atelier Notte type) | Evening rituals, tarot table, night reading |
| Premium objects | Marmo e Ottone | Solar Return report, gift cards, packaging, unboxing |
| Play layer | Studio Milano | Badges, level art, merch, sticker packs |
| Seasonal campaigns | Riviera Moderna | Summer capsule, travel content, boutique drops |
4 · Marketing strategy
Personas inside the 18–50 target
The Manifestor · 18–28
TikTok-native, vision boards, "that girl" routines. Enters through shared affirmation cards and goal aesthetics. Wants: streaks, shareable wins, bestie compatibility.
The Curator · 28–40
Pilates, matcha, Pinterest boards named "home." Enters through the beautiful daily ritual and the boutique. Wants: calm, taste, a practice that photographs well.
The Seeker · 38–50
Established, introspective, buys the annual report and the candles. Enters through depth and credibility (real natal engine). Wants: substance, privacy, premium objects.
Channel plan
- Instagram + TikTok (primary): the app's own share cards are the content engine — affirmations, card-of-the-day plates, streak milestones, all watermarked
lumenal.ai. Post zero ads that look like ads; post screens that look like the product. - Creator program: seed 50–100 micro-influencers (10k–100k, wellness/astrology/"morning routine" niches) with free annual membership + a physical Marmo-styled kit (candle, printed mini-report, deck). Their unboxing IS the campaign. Referral codes tie to the gift economy below.
- Pinterest (quiet compounder): every affirmation and ritual card auto-published as a pin; ideal for the Curator persona and evergreen search.
- Email — "L'Edizione": the daily reading as a magazine-styled digest; weekly Sunday edition free to everyone as the top of funnel.
- Launch arc: (1) focus-group winner → reskin, (2) waitlist with "your first edition" personalized teaser, (3) creator seeding two weeks before public, (4) launch tied to an astronomical moment (equinox / new moon) for built-in story.
5 · Monetization & growth features
Mapped against what already exists (see Feature Inventory: points/levels/badges economy, connections, share dialogs, streak-ready schema). Guardrail first: calm brand, no dark patterns — no loss-aversion guilt trips, no pay-to-skip, streak "repair" is graceful (one free mend per week) so the habit loop never becomes anxiety.
Habit-forming (retention)
| Feature | Mechanic | Builds on | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Daily Edition | Read → intend → act → log loop; all four = "a complete day" | Readings + points economy | Low |
| Streaks with grace | Day counter + weekly free mend; milestone editions at 7/30/108 days | point_transactions | Low |
| Goal rings | 2–3 user goals (movement, mindset, ritual) with visual rings tied to readings' suggested actions | New; UI exists in comp 04 | Medium |
| Morning push as headline | One elegant notification, written like a magazine cover line, never doom | Expo push | Low |
Viral & sharing (acquisition)
| Feature | Mechanic | Builds on | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Story cards everywhere | Every insight renders as a designed 9:16 card with one-tap share + watermark | Share dialogs | Medium |
| Compatibility as invite | "Read us" — compatibility requires the friend to join; the report is the reward for both | Connections + compatibility engine (built!) | Low |
| Birthday moment | Free mini Solar Return teaser on every user's birthday, made to be posted; upsell to full report | Luxury report engine | Medium |
| Gift memberships & kits | Gift cards + physical kit bundles; gifting is the Seeker persona's native behavior | Gift card UI (needs Stripe) | Blocked on checkout |
Social (network retention)
| Feature | Mechanic | Builds on | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared streaks | Two-person streak with a friend ("bestie check-in") — the strongest churn antidote | Connections + chat | Medium |
| Circles | Small private groups (3–8) sharing a weekly spread and intentions — not a public feed | Connections | Larger |
| Creator decks | Influencers publish curated oracle decks/spreads; revenue share | Deck admin + AI generation (built!) | Medium · phase 2 |
Gamification (engagement → revenue)
| Feature | Mechanic | Builds on | Effort |
|---|---|---|---|
| Levels as titles | Rename levels as an elegant progression (Apprentice → Luminary); Studio Milano badge art | Levels + badges (built) | Low |
| Points → boutique credit | Points convert to small boutique discounts — closes the loop from habit to commerce | Points + shop | Medium |
| Seasonal quests | Full-moon and season-long "arcs" (21-day intention arc) with a collectible card at completion | Point activities + deck art | Medium |
Revenue model (recap with the new lens)
- Membership (core): free tier = weekly edition + 1 daily card; paid (~$9.99/mo, $69/yr) = full daily editions across systems, all spreads, goal rings, no limits. The magazine framing makes subscription feel natural — you subscribe to publications.
- The Solar Return Report (~$79): the signature annual object, Marmo e Ottone treatment, gift-ready. Birthday-timed upsell to every user, every year.
- Boutique: candles + intention kits tied to readings ("tonight's ritual pairs with…"), points-credit loop, creator collabs. All of it blocked on Stripe checkout — still the P0.
KPIs to watch
- D2/D3 return rate (already the focus-group criterion) and 7-day complete-day rate.
- Share-card exports per weekly active — the viral engine's pulse.
- Compatibility invites sent → accepted (K-factor proxy).
- Free→paid conversion at day 14, report attach rate at first birthday, boutique attach per member-year.
Everything above stages cleanly behind the existing plan: (1) ship Stripe checkout, (2) reskin the focus-group winner in the chosen direction with the Daily Edition loop and story cards, (3) creator seeding + launch, (4) shared streaks and points-to-boutique, (5) circles and creator decks. Steps 1–2 unlock every revenue line; nothing here requires new AI infrastructure.
